Rancière places "equality" as the cornerstone of educational discourse, aiming to subvert the traditional educational heritage centered on "explanation" since ancient Greece and the presumed social construction of hierarchical order. In Rancière's educational theory, the teacher is an equalizer, advocating a curriculum centered on "thing in common" and endorsing a learning model guided by "translation" instead of the traditional "explanation"-dominated pedagogy.
