Spatio-temporal Continuity and Personhood: An Analysis of the Diachronicity of Identity Through Two Criterions
The concept of and continuity of personal identity has long fascinated philosophers, psychologists, and individuals alike. This essay explores the continuity of the self from childhood onwards, examining how fundamental characteristics, memories, and experiences contribute to the persistence of personal identity through the dualist theory of the mind and body. In this view, a person is the same person as an earlier person if they have the same form as the earlier person and have continuity of matter with them. This essay will assert that human essence, through Olson’s animalism, remains the same and that the enduring connections formed through memories, values, and self-perception, however unreliable, may contribute to a sense of sameness, with the final determination of sameness belonging to the person whose personhood is put to question.

NSSI is most common in teens and young adults and has been linked to a number of mental diseases. The risk of future suicide is increased among people who participate in repetitive self-harming practices. Medication and psychotherapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, are treatment possibilities. The study conducted a literature review to better understand NSSI among adolescents aged 10 to 29 years. NSSI is motivated both inside and externally. Non-traditional Gender Role Parents on the LGBTQ+ Community in Chengdu, China: A Cultural and Psychosocial Examination
The impact of non-traditional gender role parenting on the LGBTQ+ community in the Chengdu area, especially in an urban environment like Chengdu, which is known for its openness and multiculturalism is worthy of academic attention. The study was conducted primarily through both quantitative and qualitative methods: online surveys and census data were used for quantitative analysis, while in-depth interviews and focus group discussions were used for qualitative analysis. This study proposes four main hypotheses: 1) there are more parents with non-traditional gender roles relative to traditional gender roles in Chengdu; 2) children from families with non-traditional gender roles are more likely to be open about their sexual minority identities; 3) non-traditional gender role family environments may be more encouraging of children's exploration and acceptance of gender perceptions of their sexual orientations; and 4) Chengdu's social and cultural environments, specifically perceptions related to gender roles, are associated with the flourishing of the LGBTQ+ community in the city. Preliminary results show that the relative activity and openness of the LGBTQ+ community in Chengdu is significantly higher than in other regions, which is related to the higher proportion of non-traditional gender role households in Chengdu. This study emphasizes that although sexual orientation is considered an intrinsic and inherent characteristic, family environment and socio-cultural factors also play an important role, especially in a more diverse and open urban context such as Chengdu. This provides a valuable perspective for further research on the cultural and social acceptance of sexual minorities within China.

A Review of Studies on L2 Motivational Self System
Article thumbnail
The Second Language Motivational Self-System (L2 MSS) is the motivation model elaborated in this article. The aim of this article is to review the model, present a summary of research, that empirically analyses the model and its key features, and suggest future research options. In the article, the issue with the model will be addressed one by one. Then, theoretical descriptions of the model will be presented, followed by its empirical investigations and criticism. Theoretical elaboration of the model is based on Gardner’s model of motivation, Markus and Nurius’ ‘possible selves’ and Higgins’ self-discrepancy theory. Numerous empirical studies examining the model in various contexts around the world found that the ideal L2 self, which associates integrativeness motives and the internalised instrumental, is the strongest component of the model, and the ought-to L2 self, which is relatively less internalised or motivating. The model has been modified to take learning experiences into account. However, unbalanced attention is given to the L2MSS’s constituent parts.
